Who We Are

Crafting Tomorrow's Spaces with Timeless Vision

Our Story

Started back in 2011, Aether Quinthos wasn't born from some grand master plan. We were just three architects who'd grown tired of seeing cookie-cutter designs that ignored the environment and the people who'd actually live in them. We set up shop in a cramped King West office and figured we'd do things differently.

Turned out, there were plenty of folks who felt the same way. Fast forward to today, and we've grown into a team that genuinely cares about making spaces that work - not just for Instagram, but for real life. We've learned that good architecture isn't about showing off. It's about listening, adapting, and creating something that'll age well.

Toronto's been our home base all along, and honestly, this city's shaped how we think. The mix of old and new, the changing neighborhoods, the harsh winters that test every building - it all influences our work. We've made mistakes along the way, learned from them, and kept pushing forward.

How We Work

Look, we're not gonna lie - sustainable design takes more effort. It'd be easier to just spec standard materials and call it a day. But that's not why we got into this field. Every project starts with us asking uncomfortable questions: Does this building really need to be this big? Can we reuse what's already there? What'll this look like in 30 years?

We spend a lot of time on-site before we even start sketching. You can't design a space properly from behind a desk. We need to feel how the light moves, understand the neighborhood rhythms, talk to the people who'll use the building. Sometimes our clients think we're overthinking it, but then they see the results and get why we're so particular.

Our process isn't always neat and linear. There are revisions, debates, moments where we go back to the drawing board. But that messiness is part of creating something authentic. We'd rather take the time to get it right than rush through and deliver something we're not proud of.

What Drives Us

Buildings outlive us. That's a heavy responsibility when you think about it. We're essentially making decisions that'll affect people we'll never meet. So yeah, we take sustainability seriously - not as a marketing angle, but because it's the right thing to do.

But it's also about beauty. Functional doesn't have to mean boring. We want people to actually enjoy being in the spaces we create.

Design Work

Our Values

We don't do corporate speak here. Our values are pretty straightforward: be honest with clients even when it's awkward, respect the environment, design for real people, and don't cut corners just to save time.

We've turned down projects that didn't align with what we believe in. Not everyone appreciates that, but it helps us sleep at night.

Team Philosophy

We've got architects, designers, engineers, and sustainability consultants all working together. No hierarchy nonsense where juniors can't speak up. The intern who just graduated might spot something the rest of us missed - we've seen it happen.

Everyone here actually likes what they do. We're not clocking in and out like robots. Sure, deadlines get stressful, but there's genuine passion in the studio. You can feel it when you visit.

Toronto Architecture

Community Connection

Toronto's not just where our office is - it's where we live, eat, raise families. We're invested in this city's future because it's our future too. That means sometimes we take on pro-bono work for community projects or mentor students who can't afford fancy internships.

Architecture shouldn't be just for the wealthy. We're trying to figure out how to make good design more accessible. Haven't cracked that code yet, but we're working on it.

Looking Forward

We're not done learning. Climate challenges keep evolving, materials science keeps advancing, and people's needs keep changing. What worked five years ago might not work today. Staying relevant means staying curious and being willing to admit when we're wrong.

Our goal isn't to become the biggest firm in Toronto. It's to keep doing work we're proud of, with clients who value thoughtful design. If we can look back in 20 years and see buildings that still work well and look good, we'll consider that success.
